FiddlerCrab
The workshop brand: fiddling and DIY, game design, software design, hardware design, and clear project notes. Colourful, curious, deliberately approachable.
About
FiddlerCrab is the maker side of a working engineer's life: the projects that get built on evenings and weekends with the same rigour as the professional ones, and then written down so somebody else can build them too.
The person behind it
Before studying aerospace engineering — back when build knowledge was much harder to find online — Dr. Clemens Chaskel was a kid designing and building remote-controlled planes from scratch. Some flew well. Some did not. The next version got better.
That loop of exploring, failing, understanding and trying again is still the core of how everything here gets designed.
How the brands fit together
FiddlerCrab UG is the legal home for several projects. They share a method and an engineering standard, and almost nothing else.
The workshop brand: fiddling and DIY, game design, software design, hardware design, and clear project notes. Colourful, curious, deliberately approachable.
DIY diving: a browser designer for personalised cave-line markers and dive-kit parts, printed on demand or downloaded as 3MF files for your own printer.
The industrial sibling: business-critical software and manufacturing complexity. Built for scale, where FiddlerCrab is built for the joy of making.
Why bother
Professional engineering taught us that the shortage is rarely ideas — it is people comfortable with taking something apart, measuring it, and deciding it could be better. That comfort is learnable, and it is best learned young or, failing that, on a Saturday with a printer running.
So we build useful small things, publish how they were made, and keep the method legible for the next person. The workshop and the professional work feed each other.
